We followed the Sunninghill Striders Time Trial route—with alternate start/finish points.

Our founding members were all reunited, and a welcome to Keith who joined us for the first time (he incorporated our run into his 10km, so unfortunately there's no official (not)parkrun time for him.

Probably our toughest route so far—all the way down van der Bijl and then straight back up. It wasn't fun.

Mmankitseng finally joined us after claiming Saturdays are her "long run" days since we first invited her (she and Garron did put in an earlier long run though—accounts for the slower times, I suppose).

Noticeable absence this week was Bobbie who was away in Clarens.

#Finishers

  1. Robin Ford 28:46
  2. Garron Gray 29:40
  3. Charles Joubert 42:28
  4. Mmankitseng Mametse 42:45

Solid performances all round this morning. Garron dropped some ninja dust at the top of van der Bijl to set new 1km and 1 mile PBs (admittedly, it was downhill), and then had to cling on for the rest of the 4kms. Robin came in second. And Bobbie rounded out the podium with a very consistent back half.

#Finishers

  1. Garron Gray 24:10
  2. Robin Ford 25:49
  3. Bobbie Crowther 26:25

Event #5 12 Sep 2020, 8am

Only Bobbie and Garron made it to this week's (not)parkrun. Charles was out of town, and Robin had some errands to take care of. Garron also forgot to plan a memorable route, so he and Bobbie sort of just ran around until they got to 5km. Pace was conversational.

Charles may not have joined us for (not)parkrun, but he did go out for a 10km in the afternoon and smashed out a new 10km PB (that coastal George air must be nice). That's a 5km and a 10km PB in consecutive weeks. Well done Charles!

#Finishers

  1. Bobbie Crowther 28:52
  2. Garron Gray 29:05

Event #4 5 Sep 2020, 8am

We ran Bobbie's "Three Loops" route this week (check it out). What a great route! It's kind of what it says it was—three loops. Starting and ending on the same spot (corner of Tudor and Lingerette in Sunninghill Gardens), except each loop extended a little further out and down (and therefore further up) than the previous one. It was so fun. It also meant running up Kitui street three times. Phew!

Charles continued with his impressive form of late with a new 5km PB. Congratulations Charles! (He attributes his success to Mo Farah's world record 1 hour run last night.)

#Finishers

  1. Garron Gray 26:24
  2. Robin Ford 26:41
  3. Bobbie Crowther 29:38
  4. Charles Joubert 37:38
  5. Dominique van der Merwe (she doesn't have Strava)

Two newcomers today. Welcome to Dominique and Victor!

Every one complained about the hill coming home, but today's times were pretty good all round. Garron and Charles breaking the 25- and 40-minute barriers respectively. Victor swears he ran 6.7km, but he was firmly in the middle of the pack for the whole route—you can't trust Samsung watches I reckon.

#Finishers

  1. Garron Gray 24:42 (that's a palindrome!)
  2. Robin Ford 26:57
  3. Bobbie Crowther 29:47
  4. Victor Costa (First Timer)
  5. Charles Joubert 39:53
  6. Dominique van der Merwe (First Timer)

Event #2 23 Aug 2020, 8am

It was a crisp 7°C as we tackled the long loop of Edison Crescent in Sunninghill Estate (thanks to Spar for providing some wonderful early morning bakery smells). Our front three managed to stick together until Bobbie fell off the back for a walking break (it was 1km straight uphill—so we won't hold it against him). Charles marshalled the rear of the field and still managed to show up with a personal 2 mile second best effort as well.

#Finishers

  1. Garron Gray 28:22
  2. Robin Ford 28:50
  3. Bobbie Crowther 30:47
  4. Charles Joubert 43:18

"Race" report

The planned route (view it here) turned out to be a little shorter than expected, so a little improvisation became necessary towards the end to get those metres! A strong showing from Robin with PBs all the way up to the 5km.
